When people think about the judiciary, they often think about robes, courtrooms, and rulings handed down from the bench. But for me, being a judge has always been about something deeper. It is about order, community justice and respect – and how those values show up every day in the lives of the people we serve.
Order matters because without it, there is no fairness. Community matters because justice does not exist in isolation. Justice matters because it is the foundation of public trust. And respect matters because every person who enters a courtroom deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with dignity.
My commitment to justice does not stop at the courthouse doors. I am actively engaged in our community with organizations that embody my belief that justice must be lived, not just spoken. These organizations demonstrate a lifelong commitment to community, social action, equality, and fairness – values that guide me both on and off the bench.
I believe deeply that the traditional way of administering justice is ripe for disruption. Not disruption for its own sake, but disruption rooted in courage, leadership, and fidelity to the rule of law. Justice today requires bold thinking.
Meet Judge Wende Cross
Judge Wende Cross serves on the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas with a clear conviction: the justice system must work as it should, not simply as it always has. Her approach to the bench is guided by a commitment to thoughtful decision-making, transparency, and fairness that earns public trust rather than assuming it.
Since taking the bench, Judge Cross has been a leader in innovation and accountability within the court. She created the first Second Chance Initiative, known as the Reentry Docket, to better support individuals returning to the community after incarceration. She also launched the court’s first community engagement initiative, Bench-to-Block, strengthening relationships between the judiciary and the communities it serves. In addition, under Judge Cross’s leadership the court published it’s first Biennial Report in more than 20 years, offering the public a clear and comprehensive look at how the court operates.
During her tenure as Administrative Judge, Judge Cross helped bring back the Commercial Docket, ensuring complex business litigation receives the focused expertise and attention it requires. Her leadership reflects a belief that a well-functioning court must be both effective and accessible.
The words that guide Judge Cross’s work are simple but intentional: Judgment Trusted. Justice Proven. They reflect her dedication to principled judgment, institutional transparency, and a justice system worthy of the community’s confidence.
